The Hidden Land
Text by Chen Kai-Huang 1993
IT is the continuing reflection after an intense regurgitation of the unfinished project of art, indicating the primitive form of the essence of culture replanted in a fundamental state. At the same time, due to its geographical and historical necessities, it brought about a meaning of some quasi-phenomenological 'bracketing'. Therefore, it becomes, in a dominating manner, the starting point of our conscious being, conducting the shape and spirit of our thinking. As well as revealing the meaning of man's condition, gradually diluted by society, it also attempts to make a relatively clear declaration concerning our muddled state of existence. Therefore our thought and spirit's movement is not necessarily only absolute, pure imagination and fantasy, but rather a metaphor for a profounder humanism released from the fetters of linguistic concepts. In this way, it becomes a certain new thing.
In the sub-tropical forests of Asia, only tribal peoples, farmers, and foreigners can thoroughly contemplate what belong to themselves, and when their thought comes into contact with factual domains, we are able to see new and complete things.
It's the natural matter contained in the obscure humid heat, a sort of potential and deeply entrenched vitality. We always raise our heads and look on as a result of the call of certain motives or intentions, hoping to inadvertently receive, in a realm of true thinking, the uninhibited struggles it has aroused and amidst our weariness, to go and discover our existential situation. We want to get rid of the obstructions there between our ankles and the ground, to truly come into contact with and comfort this real roughness forgotten by all.
Certainly, querying is always trampled on before arriving at any meaning, and therefore has a certain realization. It seems to obstinately come to a certain sigh of equality with the insistence there is for having a meaning to things. In the end it is unknown to anyone. Only from it's germination and formation can we indistinctly sense this abundant vitality. However, queries remain, and this is the spiritually transcendent matter that compromises difficulty with civilization, because it is not a split-up of simpledialectics. It is an integral way of thought that has made a series of purity take flight or change into the courage to regard correctly and face up to existence. Therefore, it's a new key, bringing tenacious activity to an odious environment, showing where its power is situated.
