Biography
Jenny Chen was born in Chunchin, Szechwan, a province in southwest China. Her life was a common progression from daughter to student, wife and mother. At 35, Jenny embarked on a life-changing journey, starting a career in art at this relatively late stage of her life. Gallery visits, interest in art magazines and studies of Taiwanese art, led to her need for a deeper understanding of art, and so began her journey as an artist.

Jenny's passion for life is reflected in her paintings. They help her see the world in a different perspective. She paints primarily for herself, but finds pleasure in knowing that her paintings help others see the world differently as well. Her curiosity about life and the world around her are expressed in the abstract, capturing the idea that ''everyday is a new discovery.'' And so Jenny continues to surge ahead with her art, exploring each day as a new challenge.

Jenny graduated from Chengchi University in Taiwan in 1968, having studied foreign languages. Soon after, she married and began a family. Influenced by friends, Jenny became interested in art in the late 1970s. Initially a self-taught artist, Jenny immersed herself in art classes in Taiwan, focusing primarily on landscapes and figures. Dissatisfied with these styles, she visited New York City for three months in 1985. Once in New York, she joined the Art Student League, exposing her eyes and her mind to different styles of art. She was introduced to abstract art and learned that art did not simply rely on one's eyes, but on thinking and concepts as well.

In 1982, Jenny had her first group gallery exhibition at the Shin Shun Gallery, in Taipei, Taiwan. This exhibition was followed by several more group exhibitions until 1987 when two things happened to Jenny: she had her first solo exhibition at the Taipei American Culture Center in Taiwan and she enrolled in Pratt Institute in New York, from which she received her Masters of Fine Arts in 1990. Although she had originally planned to return to Taiwan after receiving her MFA, Jenny chose to stay in Soho, where she felt at home and found her art could flourish. Since her first exhibition, she has had more than 60 solo and group exhibitions everywhere from San Francisco to New York City, Spain to China, and Taiwan to Korea.
