The concept of stare back can be tracked back to James Elkins’ book ‘The Object Stares Back: On the Nature of Seeing’. The meaning of stare back is more sophisticated when expressed in Chinese language, which can also be used to interpret this exhibition and embrace the significance of stare back appropriately. According to the explanation of Mr. Lin, Chi-Ming, stare back indicates the phenomenon that the object looks back at the looker simultaneously while this person is looking at it.
Chu, Chia-Hua’s conceptual creation with cultural and historical elements began from ‘Beauties on an Outing of Li, Kung-Lin’ when he was studying in Italy. His work after this stage is a series of creation of R. H. Museum. From 1999, Mr. Chu visited famous mountains, historical heritages, caves with ancient art, and museums. He established his atelier in Beijing in 2006, and then travels frequently between Taipei and Beijing and keeps his work in creation.
