Artist Statement

You are floating in the air
Each one seems to be a perhaps hand
Standing erectly to one another

I suggest
Don't flicker adrift
Like the ghost

It mercilessly retorts
After exploration your feeling is just
The remains of natural outcome

The works shown in this exhibition are parts of my recent creation, which are a succession of explorations upon various possibilities related to or extending from painting. Driven by curiosity, it takes on a mixed visual effect of paper sculpture and painting following the blade streaking across the paintings one after another, and further being installed and perused in the space. As a result of photographic intervention, the painterly characters ultimately become the punctum of imagery. Besides, the curiosity impels the body, that is eager for painting, to step out of the studio, and making use of installation drawings to create a dialogue with the environment on the landscape of city boundary. Photography then intervenes again, while the imagery produced is like a record of the dialogue between drawing and nature. Owing to this curiosity, it also motivates the anonymous ink-and-wash paintings, bought from a flea market in Kyoto, to be reproduced on xuan papers by mounting and supporting; after that, through freely drawing on the remade paintings at will by pencils, it opens an intense dialogue between ink and pencil. Moreover, the curiosity stimulates the potted plants to be fantasized as canvases, so that painting and a dialogue are carried out between artificial drawing and natural plant.

Through the abovementioned processes of creation, I was carefree to let my imagination run wild in the domain of painting, tried to expand the limits of painting into the actually existing space, and attempted to interweave imagination with representation (or reality) into pieces of work concerning painting and its fantasy. In my works, I hope to demonstrate the diversified elements of painting and the interactive relationship between one and another, and further making up the combinative relationship between these painterly complexes, as well as subject-object relationship between them and space. In this exhibition, what one may feel is the remains of natural outcome after a succession of explorations, while that feeling is just the beginning of another adventure for me to explore more about painting.
