text by Chen Hui-Chiao
I stand in front of a wall,
on which are hung beautiful phrases
They shine, mature and fall to the ground; happily remaining there
I stand next to a wall,
on which is hung a road sign:
Remember you’re alive or forget it; no one wants to take this to its conclusion
I build a wall,
and hear only the sound of the tide in the distance;
encompassing both sound and form…
be brave, discard your shape,
forget yourself and me, or know yourself as you know me.
One can only excel amongst others of the same kind
Only their life force persuades us of an alternative existence.
Ah, dreams, I exist only because of you,
my forehead, a cave where lightning dwells…
is covered in plumage.
From self to self, returning and restarting,
a hot spring in the sky;
the weight of light, shadowless reflected light, everything will be hidden.
Once again I stand in front of the wall,
where the untouchable shadows still hang high and are devoured,
as if saying…
I enter through your eyes, you wake from my forehead.
We have been here, you and I
From the very beginning;
different but knowing each other, exchanging cold stares…
