Biography
Claire Pei, also known as Pei Zaimei, is a Seattle based Taiwanese author and an abstract painter who had numerous art exhibits in both US and Taiwan. She published 13 books including short stories, novels, screenplays and non-fiction in both Taiwan and China. Her short story “Child Favored by Jesus” won the grand prize from China Times Literature Competition Awards 1993. Her novel “Suspicion and Temptation” was one of three works nominated for Baiwan Fiction Award 2000 and won Reader’s Choice Award. She has also won several Outstanding Screenplay Awards from Office of Information Bureau1985-1994.

Her recent publications are: a non-fiction book “The Shrouded Time” (Unitas Literary Publishing Co., Taiwan. 2006) focused on contemporary art, cinema and literature of the West; A collection of short stories and novellas “Beauty and sadness in Taipei” (Shanghai Literary Publishing Co., China 2007) which is about the lives and stories of Chinese immigrants living in Taiwan after 1949, and the stories of Taiwanese immigrants in US.

“The Houseman” (Unitas Literary Publishing Co., Taiwan. 2009), is a series of short stories focused on the life and the struggle of an isolated individual in the postmodern urban setting; A non-fiction book “Goodbye, My House in the Woods” ( Unitas Literary Publishing Co., Taiwan. 2012) which is about her ordeals and inspirations during recent years of living in Seattle.

B.A. Degree from Southern Connecticut University
Diploma from Institute of New Cinema Artists and The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, New York..
