Strolling inside “IKEA”, the furniture bazaar, is a very interesting experience. I observe the furniture, and the customers in those display living rooms. Such a place like “IKEA” can be defined as a virtual reality of display living rooms. Most customers did not just look around and search for what they want, they sit and touch, even lie down in the displays, imagine as they are in their own house.

By putting themselves in those display living room composed by its various module units, public showroom has become a private space. In such a apace, customer’s body and mind practicing, picturing their ideal design, or compare the feeling with their own livings.

With your imagination rose by those fascinating catalogs, your body surrounded by gorgeous displays, “IKEA” becomes a place where reality and virtual intercross.

As what mention above, catalog and its images will draw people into itself. Or of course you can say, people will draw pictures into their own imagination.

“Do Not Forget the Person in the shade”, this piece of work allows audiences enter such a catalogic display area, and present a catalogic image with audiences physically appear with in it, in compare with the imagination in their mind.

Now a day’s collection images is very similar to early stage’s database like photograph. These collection images does not have an artwork’s concept, which is what Michel Foucault mentioned in his book “L’ARCHELOGIE DU SAVOIR”, an archive.

“IKEA”s eye-dazzling catalogs and display living rooms functions as an index of relationship between human and world.
