Reduced to light refers to object that has been demoted into light. My art take references from works of art history that have image of light. And from this I employed painting as a way to reflect decoding process of viewing that is paralleled to my intuitive sensation.
My creative process requires me to paint in a dark room which I am unable to see the result of my painting instantly. During this process I used pens to create various wash effects on the canvas of the projected negative images of the source materials that I have edited. Through this procedure the shades of images are transformed into light with visible contour. And I traced the projection image with dark colors to creating a new layer of image which reflected the perception of my sight.
This allowed me to merge the viewed image with my sensitivity onto the painting, which is in relation with the traced image that overlaps the projection image. Hence, the painting has become the coded image’s representation and is the intimate perception of my viewing. These images are not result of my corporal experience but rather derived from my emotional sensitivity. They are my mental imprints of the light that is as vivid as any light sources in this world, creating shade on its path and becoming an ocean of bright light that shines in my unawakened thoughts. |
