Elsa Hsiang-chun Chen (10 October 1969 - 21 September 2011) is Assistant Professor of Art History in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, National Yang Ming University, Taiwan. Before joining Yang Ming, she taught art history and theory at UCLA, National Kaohsiung Normal University, and National Taipei University of the Arts. She received her Ph.D in Art History from the University of Leeds, UK; MA in Art History from the University of Sydney; and BA in Philosophy from National Taiwan University. Advised by the leading British feminist art historian Prof. Griselda Pollock, her Ph.D Thesis is titled Beyond Commemoration: the February 28 Incident, the Aesthetics of Trauma and Sexual Difference (2005). Her main research interests include contemporary art in Taiwan and Asia and the issues of trauma, history, memory, migration, and sexual difference in the visual cultures. She also practices as an art critic and an independent curator.
